FEMA PSA Weather Alerts

I don't want to belabor the point, but in Moore, OK they had a 16 minute warning.  Now 16 minutes may not seem like a long time, but it could be the difference between life and death.  16 minutes gives you time to get in the basement or to a storm shelter.
Today the The Ready Campaign and the Ad Council released a new Public Service Announcement to help Americans Prepare for Severe Weather with Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs). There are many things that can save your life, and now your phone could be one of them. For more information visit www.Ready.gov/alerts. (You do not need to register to receive WEA notifications. You will automatically receive alerts if you have WEA-capable phone and your wireless carrier participates in the program. To find out if your mobile device is capable of receiving WEA alerts, contact your mobile device carrier or visit http://www.ctia.org/wea)

Supersonic Safety Research agrees with FEMA's Ready check to PREPARE, PLAN, STAY INFORMED.  This alert will help you to STAY INFORMED.

The alert will look like this and should NOT be ignored.

Xbox One Privacy Issues?

I don't own an Xbox and don't play video games, but I know lots of people who do and this info is more than interesting.  It seems that Kinect is always on and listening and can NOT be turned off.  The reasons for this may very well be innocuous; however the concern has to be can this be misused and abused.  Something to think about and be aware of.

PI Sam and Supersonic Safety Research reminds everyone - "Stay Alert and Be Aware"

PoliceOne Roll Call UK Terror Attack + More

I watched this video because I was interested in analysis on the UK Terror Attack; however the other 2 segments are also excellent.  The words that stood out for me in his analysis of the Terror Attack were: Intent, Terrorize, Be Aware, Soft Targets and Warriors Heart.   I have watched this video several times, not because I am ghoulish (it actually sickens me), but because I am stunned by all the standing around and the amount of time that elapses.  I understand response time, I know there are many factors that can affect this and in this case it was a need for armed officers to respond.  The whole thing is just tragic, sad and sick.

Memorial Day Weekend

As the Memorial Day Weekend begins let us take time to remember that it is not about barbecues and extra time off.  It is about remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.   Supersonic Safety Research remembers and is grateful for their sacrifice.

Social Media Revolution

If you haven't embraced social media yet, watch this video.  The statistics are AMAZING.

After watching this, do you think you should be doing more with social media?

Sad Day

First everyone at Supersonic Safety Research would like to say that all those affected by the devastating tornadoes are in our thoughts and prayers.
On a personal note, PI Sam and myself are saddened by the sudden death today of our friend retired History teacher/professor Danny Massie.  We will miss his History lectures, but more importantly we will miss our friend.  Danny had begun to film his free lectures and post to YouTube.  I can think of no better remembrance than to post a link to his videos, he loved doing these lectures and I know he would take great pleasure in people watching them.

Celebrity Apprentice

Congratulations to Trace Adkins on winning Celebrity Apprentice.  Personally I thought it should have been between Lil Jon and Penn Jillette.  I'm sure Donald Trump could care less about what I think, maybe when I make my first billion he'll listen to me.  :^)  Anyway, it is all for charity and that is what really counts.  As a small business I enjoy watching the show and learning a little about branding, marketing, etc.

Dementia, Alzheimer, Missing Persons

Supersonic Safety Research had a sad ending to a missing person case that we were assisting with: "TAYLOR: Missing elderly man with dementia found dead". http://www.thenewsherald.com/articles/2013/05/15/news/doc5193e6b253a0b791586667.txt#.UZRkNSm5YZk.facebook
Dementia and Alzheimer are such cruel diseases and very hard on families.  Aside from having to watch someone you love deteriorate mentally, there are so many concerns for their safety and well being.
Here are some resources to assist families:

Alzheimer's Association has a Safety Center on their web site:

This video offers some viable solutions, I have also seen that GPS is now being used.

Motion Detector Lights Plus Surveillance Cameras

Two days ago I blogged about the Neighborhood Watch meeting I went to.  I told you how the Police Officer talked about NOT being a target.  Some of his suggestions were to lock your vehicle and not leave valuables inside it.  He also suggested motion detector lights for outside your home.  One thing he did NOT talk about, but Supersonic Safety Research recommends is surveillance cameras.  It may sound a little self-serving since we install cameras; however cameras can be a deterrent, alert you to a problem and aid in the capture of a perpetrator.  Combining surveillance cameras and motion detector lights outside your home is a great way to make your home more secure.

Why Everyone Loves Firemen

You know what they say, "If you want to be loved become a fireman."  I can still hear my Academy Instructor telling us, "Everyone loves the fireman; he rescues your cat, he puts the fire out.  Nobody likes the policeman; he tells you what to do."   So, when I saw this story I couldn't help but laugh: "FDNY Rescues Cop Stuck in Tree Trying to Rescue Cat."
Supersonic Safety Research likes and respects both firemen and policemen.
Here is the story:

Neighborhood Watch

Went to a Neighborhood Watch meeting tonight, the Lt from the local police did an excellent job.  The most important take away points:
1- Criminals are opportunists
2 - Do what you can to make yourself NOT a target
3 - Be a Mrs. Kravitz

For those who don't know who Mrs. Kravitz is - she was the nosy neighbor on the TV show Bewitched who saw EVERYTHING.

Trying My Best with Tai Chi

Enjoying Tai Chi, but tonight I felt like I was in this "I Love Lucy" episode.  The instructor is soft spoken and has a thick accent, so I could not hear her...  I felt like Lucy at the audition at the end of this episode when she volunteers to assist Professor Falconi, a knife thrower.  Watch and see what I mean.

The video is from Hulu.com

The Empire State Building Lights Up for Police Memorial Week

Supersonic Safety Research is proud to salute the men and women who serve as Police/Peace Officers and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Fifty years ago, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 of each year Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of federal, state, and municipal officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.
Tonight, in honor of the NYPD and to commemorate Police Memorial Week, the Empire State Building's lights will shine in blue and purple.

Are Rectal Phiones Trending?

I have to go to Twitter and see if rectal phones are trending.  4 days ago I posted a video about a prisoner with a phone secreted in his rectum and now I see a story in the NY Post (04/23/2013) about another detainee with a phone secreted in his rectum.  The NYC detainee had stolen the phone.
Here is some info from Wired Safety (https://www.wiredsafety.org/) about how to help the police or cell phone company track your phone:

"Do you know how to get your smartphone's unique 15 digit IMEI? (International Mobile Equipment Identity) You can get it on most phones by typing in: *#06# If your phone is lost or stolen it's good to have this number written down so that it can be tracked by police or your cell phone company."

Rectal Phone???

This gives new meaning to, "Can you hear me now?"  Seriously though, it is a reminder of the lengths some people will go to to secrete something.  For all of us who have to search people, we need to be cognizant  of this for our safety and the safety of others.

Expanding Surveillance Networks

This is a good article that talks about the expansion of surveillance networks that is sure to come in the near future.  The article brings up some good points; in particular about surveillance by law enforcement stating that the main difference between private surveillance and law enforcement surveillance is that LE has, "the power to investigate, prosecute and jail people."
Interesting to know that the debate continues as to whether cameras work as a deterrent to crime with the research not showing they are effective in this wayCameras have proven to be rather effective, as we saw with the Boston Marathon Bombing after  the fact.
Red light and speed cameras have seen a widespread backlash.  Personally I am opposed to the use of cameras for V & T (vehicle/traffic)  enforcement.  First some of these cameras have proven to be less than accurate, also I feel they deny citizens the right to face their accuser (I know that the courts have ruled against my opinion on this, but I still feel that way).  Traffic enforcement's goal should be to make the roads safer, not to be a cash cow.
Finally, my favorite part of the article was this paragraph describing cameras in England :
"Dozens are said to sit today around the house of George Orwell, the author of "1984," a story that foretold of a "Big Brother" society. Privacy advocates in the U.S. are concerned that the networks proposed by officials today could grow to realize Orwell's dystopic vision."

Supersonic Safety Research held their 3rd PI School tonight on Missing Persons and Process Service.  Thanks to my boss PI Sam for a great class.  We will be holding some more classes in the future and hope if you are in the area that you will attend.  Watch for postings on our Facebook business page.  Also, watch for our YouTube videos and channel which will feature some of our classes and  whole lot more.  Exciting things coming your way, so stay tuned.
