Driver Ed Part 1

The other day I briefly discussed when I taught, what New York State termed, 'Points and Insurance Reduction' program.  It was called this because people would take the course to either reduce 'points' on their driver's license or to get a reduction on their automobile insurance.  I preferred to call it a 'Defensive Driving' course because I thought that was how we need to drive - DEFENSIVELY  in order to be safe on the road.  I liked to start my classes off with the following video, Disney's "Motor Mania" starring Goofy.  This CARtoon was made in 1950, but remains very relevant today, not at all outdated.  Watch and see the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde like transformation that takes place as Mr. Walker turns into Mr. Wheeler when he gets behind the wheel of a car.

Looking For a Speed Trap?

This is a great picture and I just had to use it to set up for my future blog post about traffic tickets.  I am planning a series of posts related to driving as I taught the 'Point and Insurance Deduction' classes when I lived in NY.  I actually miss teaching them as I put a great deal of time and energy into developing my class to keep it from being BORING (which they mostly were) and also educational.  I know I kind of stretched the rules a little (using a little more video than I was supposed to) with how I did my class, but I felt confident that my students got more out my classes the way I structured them and isn't that really the goal.  Anyway, here is my first driving related post.  I call it 'Speed Trap?'

Handcuffs and a One-Armed Man

Remember the TV show from the 1960's, The Fugitive?  It starred David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimball a man falsely convicted of murdering his wife.  The real killer?  A one-armed man.  In 1993 The Fugitive was made into a movie and was based on the television show.  Harrison Ford starred as Dr. Richard Kimball and he too was falsely accused and seeking the real killer - the one-armed man.
My question to you today is this:  How do you handcuff a one-armed man?

Cruisin Police Style

The Woodward Dream Cruise is 'officially' tomorrow; however many of the cars and cruisers were out and about today - including me.  Here is picture of two police cars that were featured by Dodge at the Dream Cruise - sweet rides.
I think that next year Supersonic Safety Research should have a car cruising Woodward Avenue, we'll have to start working on that.
