Michigan State Police K-9 Unit vehicle |
Supersonic Safety Research was at Missing in Michigan earlier this month and got to see the Michigan State Police K-9 unit strut their stuff. All handlers and canines go through a 14 week basic school. All teams are trained in narcotics detection, building search, area search, property search, aggression and obedience. The unit handles approximately 4,500 calls annually with 60% from outside agencies. After 8 years of service the canine retires to either their handler's or another 'loving person's' home.
DYK? - all Michigan State Police canines are German Shepherds.
